How To Make A Game Or App Without Coding
GameSalad
GameSalad is the second software in our list of options to build games or apps without coding. It is a visual drag and drop game development tool that can be used to make simple games, often similar to the popular iOS "endless runner" games such as Canabalt, Temple Run, etc.
You can also use GameSalad to build more complex games as well. Games made with GameSalad can be exported to the web or iOS. If you are interested in learning how to design games and basic programming concepts, then GameSalad is a good tool for you due to it's easy interface.
GameSalad has several high level features that allow you to create compelling gameplay behavior using an intuitive interface. This software is used in schools for teaching students about game development and programming concepts.
Stencyl
If you’re serious about game development and want to learn how to code, but can’t afford expensive software, Stencyl might be for you. It lets you create games for multiple platforms including iOS, Android and Flash with a drag and drop interface.
Stencyl is free for download and use for as long as you like, but if you want to export your game so it can be played by others, there’s a charge. Single-game licenses cost $199 each or if you pay $299 per year (or $99 per quarter) there are no limits on the number of games made or the revenue generated.
You don’t need coding skills to use Stencyl, although there is an option to add custom code if you like.
Construct 2
Let’s go over some basics about Construct 2. Construct 2 is a free, 2D game engine that can help you make both browser-based games and native mobile apps, but it’s not to be confused with a visual development tool. You won’t be writing code in a drag-and-drop coding environment, but rather creating assets that are dragged onto a layout and arranged using event sheets. This will allow you to create games without code.
To give you an idea of the type of games you can make in Construct 2, I’ll list some popular Construct titles: Super Splasher Bros., Fruit Ninja Arcade Edition, Go Kart Survival Game (which won the first ever Global Game Jam), Megaman X6D (a remake of the classic Megaman X6), and Sushido (a sushi-themed match three game).
Unreal Engine
Unreal Engine is a free game engine that is used by many AAA game studios to make games like Fortnite and Paragon. It's visually appealing and has a powerful visual scripting system called Blueprints, allowing you to make your own games and apps without coding.
Unreal Engine is not a beginner tool but if you are willing to learn, you will be able to create amazing things with Unreal Engine.
RPG Maker
RPG Maker is a software application that lets you create 2D role-playing games without needing to know how to code. RPG Maker has a wide range of features for making your game, including simple drag and drop functionality, an intuitive interface, and even pre-made art from past commercial games. RPG Maker also has a large user base that is constantly churning out inspirational new projects, so finding resources like tutorials or pre-made art packs is never difficult. This particular tool can be used to make games for both PC as well as mobile devices, so it's ideal no matter where you want your finished product to end up.
With a little learning, you can make your own games.
If you've ever wanted to create your own game or app, but didn't know how to code, there are many tools and resources out there that can help. You can use these tools to make games, apps, or anything else you want.
Hopefully I've explained the process well enough for you to do it yourself if you want.
