Black screen of death is more common than we think. Getting a blue screen of death is considered as a bad situation. But at least your computer will tell you that there’s something wrong. On the other hand, in black screen of death there is no error message displayed. It is difficult to figure out what might have happened.
Black Screen of Death, is a stop error that occurs in the Windows system after a system crash it means when an operating system reaches to a state where it can no longer operate the system safely.
Do you see a black screen before login? Or after login? Or a black screen with only a cursor? The possible causes of a black screen could be:
- Windows 10 Installation is incomplete
- Windows Update is pending
- Software & Driver Errors
- Display Issues
- Overheating issue
- Power Supply Problem
- Corrupt file system
Note: The solutions are different depending on whether the black screen happens before or after login screen.

The steps below to repair the hardware and driver issues.
Step 1: Turn the system on and off three times, and in the third attempt, the system will boot into Diagnostics Mode. As you enter the Diagnostics Mode, select Advanced Options.
Step 2: Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings and in the startup menu, choose the Enable Safe Mode option to restart the system.
Step 3: Now, the system restarts in Safe mode, open Device Manager, and select the Display Adapter. Right-click on it and disable the driver.
Restart the system and make sure that the Windows Update is installed completely to resolve the black screen of death.
Check the Power Supply:
One of the reasons for the Windows black screen of death could be a fault in the power supply. So, you will have to diagnose if the black screen is a power supply issue or not. Check all the hardware components. If the component is fine, then the power supply is most likely faulty.
For this try to change the power supply.
Wake Up Your Display:
Computers can get black screen of death if Windows is not able to detect the display. The simple step you have to follow is:
Press the Windows key and then hold down Ctrl + Shift + B together.
It will force the display to wake up, and the problem might get resolved.
